Nurture in School

‘Nurture is a positive reinforcement to breaking down barriers to learning.’

Ballycraigy is the only school within our local area to have their own accredited Majory Boxall nurture class. This integral part of our school is seen as a beacon of good practice and is fully supported by the Department of Education and the EA.

As a nurturing school we recognise that positive relationships are central to both learning and well-being. Any child may display a barrier to their learning at any point during their school career. Barriers include a lack of confidence or low self-esteem. The nurture class offers a safe place for children who need a calm and gentle environment. The children can then develop at their own pace and within the supportive, smaller class they can make gains in all aspects of school life: socially, emotionally and educationally. Our nurture room ‘The Beehive’, gives the children the security and opportunity to discover themselves and their own world.
